Come to Hanlon House to see the penguins. Take a torch from the back door and wander through the garden to find them from July through to May. A colony nests 2 minutes walk away near the beach and cemetery.

Ride the Chair Lift to the top of the NUT for great views. The Nut is an imposing basalt outcrop above the historic town of Stanley. It was formed as a volcanic plug. There is also a 40 minute walk around to top with viewing platforms.
Visit Joe Lyon's cottage - the birth place of the only Tasmanian born Prime Minister. Political history at its best!

Historic Highfield of Stanley
Historic Highfield Estate - A complete colonial homestead and settlement established in 1826 to house the Governor of the Van Dieman’s Land Co., his servants and assigned convicts. Open for inspection and brilliantly interpreted. A must see !
Enjoy a SEAL CRUISE which takes only 75 minutes and cruises to a nearby colony of Australian Fur Seals along a spectacular coastline.
View the King Crab and Australian rock lobsters as well as local sea fish at the Seaquarium.

Wander Stanley's streets and browse craft galleries, unique shops, numerous historic buildings and meet the friendly local people.
Try for a fish at the wharf
Tarkine Adventures includes a bike track and slide to a forest swamp. Refreshments are available at the café. 2 kms of boardwalk at the bottom of the forest floor. for 6
Guided tours also operate at Woolnorth – far north west pastoral and historical property including a wind farm and Cape Grim. Another day tour is available through the wilderness and onto the edge of the Tarkine and the rugged West Coast with guided trout fishing tours available.
Cruises operate at the Arthur River and take you to the heart of Tasmania's wilderness, and to the Frankland River junction, feeding sea eagles on the way, includes a barbecue lunch.

Dip Falls at Mawbanna
Drive to the Dip River waterfall and view the Big Eucalypt Tree at Mawbanna. On your way there or return why not stop at Water Wheel Creek for a coffee and enjoy a guided tour of a working example of a timber tramway, an accessible forest walk and an indoor heritage museum.

This is the largest remaining temperate rainforest in the Southern Hemisphere. 100kms of highway (mainly a good gravel surface) where you will not see any sign of human activity or habitation. Experience one of the few remaining undeveloped areas of our land.
